A Legacy Since 1948

Established in 1948, Wayside Celtic Football Club was founded by a group of men from the Kilternan area in County Dublin. The club’s early years were spent playing in Stepaside before moving to Golden Ball, Kilternan, which became its home for many successful decades. In more recent years, a move towards modern facilities led to the club relocating to its current home at Jackson Park.

The club crest is centred around the iconic tower of the Ballycorus lead mines, a landmark visible from the club’s grounds. The original crest was designed by Billy Kelly and has since been modernised while maintaining its connection to the club’s heritage.

In 1998, to mark the club’s 50th anniversary, members sourced and restored the original gold fleck balls that had gone missing from the Old Abbey Gate pillars in Kilternan. These gates are located beside The Golden Ball Pub. Special thanks go to Joe Walsh, Paddy Farrelly, Bob McCarthy, and Ger Doyle for their efforts.

Today, Wayside Celtic is a thriving club. We remain a 100% amateur organisation and are proudly committed to that ethos. The club fields three senior teams competing at the highest levels of Leinster Senior League (LSL) football, along with over 20 junior teams in the DDSL. Our academy continues to grow and is a testament to the strong community and dedicated volunteers that support the club.

On the Pitch

On the pitch, Wayside Celtic has enjoyed significant success. The club has won the Leinster Senior League Senior Sunday Division on five occasions, most recently in 2011. We have also claimed multiple Metropolitan Cups, FAI Intermediate Cups, and the Leinster Junior Cup in 1989.

The club has faced a number of League of Ireland teams in both the FAI Cup and Leinster Senior Cup. Notable victories include wins over Waterford FC, Finn Harps, Cobh Ramblers, and Bray Wanderers, along with competitive fixtures against Bohemians, St Patrick’s Athletic, and Shamrock Rovers.

In recent seasons, our junior teams have continued to achieve league and cup success, highlighting the strength of talent within the club. Our Senior Development side has enjoyed a remarkable rise, securing a league title and back-to-back promotions since 2023. The First Team has also reached the Second Round of the FAI Cup in both 2024 and 2025.
